Aug 8: Depart Temple City
Marce & Ian with Donner depart Temple City, leaving Joe & Gina on their own. Drive the RV up a twisting road not meant for RVs to overnight at Onion Valley Campground.Aug 9: Drive to Green Creek
Wild camp at Dunderberg Mill. Donner chases deer and chipmunks.Aug 10: Drive to Goose Meadow Campground
Abandon the campground and wild camp in the lovely meadow. Hear coyotes yipping that night after a kill. Donner's ears prick up and he is hesitant to leave the RV next morning.Aug 11: Visit Donner Memorial Park
Visit the memorial commemorating the Donner Party, distant relatives of Marcelle's. The family became a symbol of the hardships of traveling by covered wagon in the 1840s, when they were trapped by early snows in the Eastern Sierra. Some perished while others survived by cannibalism and/or were rescued.Aug 12: Wild Camp Near Clear Lake
Aug: 13-14: Visit Uncle Bob & Jackie
Drive seven miles of rough road to the house built by Uncle Bob deep in Humboldt County near Garberville. See Jackie's horses and vegetable garden. Enjoy a day trip to Black Sands Beach, where Donner showed his fearless nature in the ocean.Aug 15: Pick up Joe & Gina
Drive to Redding to meet Joe & Gina's bus, arriving from San Francisco. Head into the Lassen National Forest to overnight at Big Pine Campground.Aug 16: Pack into the Caribou Wilderness
Abandon the RV to trek to Long Lake, pitch tents and wild camp. Ian enjoys fishing on a beautiful, misty morning.Aug 17-18: WUG
Arrive late at night to the Goodwin family property on the Little Deschutes River in Oregon. Donner exhibits pure joy exploring the riverside spot next morning. Spend a couple days swimming and canoeing on the river, fishing, painting, and strumming the guitar.Aug 19: Drive & Camp in Washington
Aug 20-21: Pender Island, BC
Cross the border into Canada and meet the Gunn/Delahooke clan to take the ferry to Pender Island. Arrive at their "Delahooke & Gun Club" home on North Pender for a few days of visiting and exploration. Included a visit to a local art fair, lots of Badminton, and a musical review by Julie & Arthur.Aug 22: Vancouver
Take the ferry back to the mainland and crash for a night at the Kitsalano house.Aug 23: Exit Marce
Marce flies home from Vancouver. Ian, Joe, Gina & Donner start the long drive home.Aug 24-25: Camp Along the Route
